Folsom Street Events - FY 2009 Achievements
Event Planning and Production
- Observed the annual Folsom Street Fair with 125 street pole banners on Market and Folsom Streets (in coordination with LeatherWalk)
- Coordinated regular meetings of SoMa businesses and nonprofits to create an exciting SF Leather Week calendar of events
- Produced extra events including a formal dinner with Varla Jean Merman at supperclub, a guided tour of GLBT and leather San Francisco (with Cruisin' the Castro Tours), and the annual San Francisco Party at IML
- Identified new venue for fourth annual Bay of Pigs⢠over Up Your Alley (UYA) weekend
- Maintained and redesigned the UYA footprint with more room, exhibitors, and a safer setting
- Produced another sold-out Magnitude event (for 2,300+ attendees) at The Regency Center
- Sold out of Exhibitor booths for both UYA and Folsom Street Fair (FSF)
- Engaged women's community through the FSE Women's Committee
- Developed the Women's Area ("Venus' Playground") at FSF with space and demos
- Selected nine erotic artists to participate in the Artists' Area at FSF
- Attracted top notch bands to FSF including Natalie Portman's Shaved Head, Dirty Sanchez, and M.E.N. (featuring JD Samson of Le Tigre)
- Responded effectively to all fair medical emergencies and continued to improve Medical staffing and resources
- Received positive community feedback and minimal complaints on all events
- Produced a very successful Beneficiary Awards Reception at Sloane SF
Community, Fundraising, Marketing and Media
- Managed positive community relationships with City agencies (e.g. SFPD, DPT, SFFD, and DPH), businesses, and other entities (e.g. Father Alfred Center, Folsom Dore Apartments)
- Sponsored Mid-Atlantic Leather, LA Leather, Mr. SF Leather, Ms. SF Leather, IMsL, CLAW, Church Street Fetish Fair, Folsom Fridays, and Sydney Leather Pride Association
- Maintained healthy sponsorship income in a tight economy
- Generated outstanding beer sales and gate donations at FSF
- Generated new record for Magnitude income
- Produced FSF Program Guide with articles, maps, and resources (in conjunction with GLOSS)
- Continued national distribution of FSF Program Guide into 50 North American markets
- Maintained vital GFTA support for arts programming
- Photographed and designed one of the most successful FSF posters in our history, stressing the relevance of the leather/fetish family
- Worked successfully with NCSF to manage all media and PR inquiries
- Produced a Town Hall Meeting with Supervisor Bevan Dufty to solicit community feedback
Operations
- Managed a successful Beneficiary structure
- Maintained a competitive National Community Grant Program with Titan/Folsom Fund
- Introduced updated guidelines within the Exhibitor application process
Board and Organizational Development
- Conducted successful Annual Board of Directors Strategic Planning Retreat
- Maintained a Board of Directors of ten (10) full members and twelve (12) associates
- Finalized trademarks for "Folsom" (Australia) and maintained proof of "Folsom" use (Canada)
- Generated one of the largest charitable checks in Folsom Street Events' history, $333,452 (raising nearly $2 million of the agency's $4 million total in just the last six years)
- Funded 70 charities in the San Francisco Bay Area and across the nation and the world
